Greetings Bordelon Sailors and Families
This is our first attempt to get into the cycle of getting news to all of you on a regular basis. Sorry for the delay but there really hasn’t been a lot going on since our last get- together in Myrtle Beach, which was very well handled by our previous crew - Barney and the gang - and we’re still hitting them up for advice.
By way of introduction. I served on Bordelon from Jul. ‘59-Nov. ‘60, joining the ship just before the homeport change to Charleston, made a Med cruise, and made YN2. Almost all my old ships have reunions going but my favorite is the Busy Bee.
The plan is to gather as many email addresses as possible, enabling us to cut down on delivery time and the cost of snail mail and hopefully resulting in more frequent issues. So, please get those email addresses to Bill (blongski@sbcglobal.net)
and Sebastian (sriccobono@sbcglobal.net). Our postage and printing costs can drop significantly by using email and I hope that’s the route we can take. Of course, if you simply don’t want anything to do with email, we’ll keep getting the word out to you.
The first go-round we’ll send the newsletter to all current and reasonably current members. The next newsletter we’ll drop those who haven’t paid dues, but you’ll still receive email notices. Dues will be for 2010 & 2011, $25 payable to Bordelon Reunion and Sebastian Riccobono, 1213 Glenview Ave., Wauwatosa, WI 53213, who will send out a newly designed, reunion card to you. We’re designing arid printing them as we go to keep our costs down. If times are hard and you can’t afford the dues, please contact me so arrangements can be made.
The 2011 reunion will be held in Pensacola, Florida (or Pensacola Beach), each of which is one bridge away from my home in Gulf Breeze. Pensacola is a great military town and calls as its own the Blue Angels, which are based here. Each year the Blues hold their final show at Pensacola Naval Al r Station, usually about the middle of November. That’s the date we’ll be shooting for. That week is a tremendous hit with reunions. There are enough attractions to have a full week reunion if that’s what you want. The Chamber of Commerce has assigned “a Military Reunion Agent” to make sure things go well. New hotels are being built as we speak and I hope to cash in on some good rates for that time. Anything near what Myrtle Beach was will be great.

If you’re anywhere in the Cartersvi I le, GA area Howard Norton could use some cheering up. His address is 17 Webb Drive SW, Cartersville, GA 30120. Not sure when he served but he could use a visit.
Again, a Bravo Zulu to Barney and his gang for exemplary service during their very long tours. You guys were great and we hope you don’t mind when we keep asking for advice.
