In a continued effort to honor our veterans, the Patient Education Council will hold its 3rd annual PATIENT RECOGNITION RECEPTION on May 4th. Bob Nemke joined the OT WAMM (Walk A Mile or More) group in June of 2008. He had gained over 50 lbs since retiring from his job and being very inactive. His eating habits needed some change as well. The group gave him the nickname "Pound of Ham" because he could not stop eating when he got started! He took the teasing well and was pleased to have the support of the group. On his first day with the WAMM group he walked around the pond but had to stop several times to rest. Today Bob walks easily 2 miles without stopping during the WAMM session. He no longer eats a pound of ham and he has lost almost 20 lbs. Bob is making steady progress towards a healthy lifestyle. Cleo Alexander joined the OT WAMM (Walk A Mile or More) in January of 2007. He was a avid mall walker before coming to the group, but frustrated because he was not able to lose weight. Mr. A was a "nibbler"! He was eager to learn how to read food labels, determine how many calories he is eating and try to make better choices. He take an active role in maintaining his health, seeking knowledge on blood pressure and cholesterol management in addition to diet and exercise. He is down about 20 lbs since joining the program. He is a pillar of the group, offering support to new members and serving as an outstanding role model for healthy living. Alonzo Dodson joined the WAMM group in 2005. His goal was to lose weight to help reduce his back and neck pain. He weighed over 300 lbs. He was very sedentary and his eating habits had plenty of room for improvement. In spite of a busy family life and at times debilitating pain, Alonzo had been a regular participant in the weekly exercise group. He often brings his young children to the group when they are off from school. They have learned from the best role model, their Dad, what it is about to lead a healthy lifestyle. Alonzo is a new man after a 70+ lb weight loss and a haircut! Way to go Alonzo. You are an inspiration to us all.
